FORT LEE, Virginia — News media are invited to attend a ceremony during which the Army and local community officially join forces to make Fort Lee’s museums more accessible to the public.
WHAT: Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony
WHEN: 1 p.m., May 6 (media should arrive 30 minutes early – RSVP required)
WHERE: U.S. Army Women’s Museum
Leaders from U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Lee; Crater Planning District Commission; and the U.S. Army Center for Military History will sign a memorandum of understanding declaring their intent to pursue the establishment of a publicly accessible museum enclave on Fort Lee.
The enclave would include the Army Women’s Museum, the Army Quartermaster Museum and a new Army Transportation Pavilion.
Fort Lee and community leaders have discussed the possibility of an enclave since 2016, when increased security requirements at military installations made its on-post museums less accessible to public visitation. A museum enclave outside the installation’s fence line would permit unrestricted public access to the museums.
Media interested in attending must contact Jefferson Wolfe, deputy public affairs officer, at (804) 734-6965, (804) 400-7273 or Jefferson.firstname.lastname@example.org to coordinate an escort on post. Face coverings and social distancing are required on post at all times.
B-roll video and photos will be available following the event.
Fort Lee is the Army’s Home of Sustainment and supports the training, education and development of adaptive Army logistics professionals. The installation supports more than 90,000 Soldiers, retirees, veterans, family members and civilian employees in the local area. Fort Lee has a regional economic impact of about $2.25 billion per year. Major organizations on the installation include the Combined Arms Support Command, Army Logistics University, U.S. Army Ordnance School, U.S. Army Quartermaster School, U.S. Army Transportation School, Defense Commissary Agency and Defense Contract Management Agency.
